Sunday UPDATE: Don't mess with Zac Efron's abs. Neighbors delivered a McMansion-sized debut with $51.1M, the biggest comedic bow since 2012's Ted and largest ever for Seth Rogen. With auds slightly-leaning female (53%), the R-rated raunchfest scored a tepid 'B' Cinemascore which should have little affect going forward thanks to scheduling, which doesn't see another "comedy" enter the marketplace until Blended in two weeks. As for Spidey, the webslinger's second-weekend skid was as super-steep as expected, down -59%, a drop more precipitous than any of the recent Marvel-based superhero flicks experienced. Buried in eighth place, Legends of Oz: Dorothy's Return proved there's no place like DVD, opening with an itsy-bitsy $3.7M, a massive tank job for Clarius Entertainment, who spent some $70M on the animated trash heap.

1. Neighbors $51.1M
2. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 $37.2M
3. The Other Woman $9.3M
4. Heaven Is for Real $7M
5. Captain America: The Winter Soldier $5.6M
6. Rio 2 $5.1M
7. Moms' Night Out $4.2M
8. Legends of Oz: Dorothy's Return $3.7M

Shredded. Not since 300 has the big screen seen abs as chiseled as Zac Efron's in Neighbors, the raunchfest that appears poised to put down Spidey this weekend. As The Other Woman proved two weeks back, adults are desperate for laughs and Neighbors purportedly has plenty. With the webslinger set for a sizable sophomore slide, Efron and his abs could take the title.
  1. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 $38.5M - With mediocre word of mouth, second-weekend skid could surpass -60%.
  2. Neighbors $36.25M (↑) - Bigger opening than comparable This Is the End?
  3. Legends of Oz: Dorothy's Return $10.5M (↓) - Eighth-rate animated offering should have been deposited directly into a Redbox machine but does decent business with clueless-to-its-putridness families. Brutal sit.
  4. The Other Woman $8.25M - Ticks up/down on Neighbors level of success.
  5. Heaven Is for Real $5.25M - The perfect Mother's Day gift.
  6. Moms' Night Out $4.75M - Release on just over 1K screens limits rake.
