Slinging the Oscar Snubs

What in the heck just happened?!? It's not often that I find myself speechless but this is one of those rare moments. How on earth do you not nominate three of the best directing efforts of 2012 when determining the best directing efforts of 2012??? Leaving Ben Affleck, Kathryn Bigelow and Tom Hooper on the sidelines and putting David O. Russell and Benh Zeitlin in the game is straight-up unconscionable. While I can see how Academy voters fell for Zeitlin's "artistic" concoction, Russell directed a glorified rom-com – a pseudo-smart quirkfest. Deplorable.

Other jaw-dropping snubs:

No Best Picture or Best Cinematography nods for The Master?!? I knew Paul Thomas Anderson was likely out of the Best Director running but his creation was without question one of 2012's best films – my pick for the finest in fact.

No Best Supporting Actor nod for Leonardo DiCaprio?!? Not a huge shocker, seeing as the Academy has shown little respect to Leo over the years, but his performance in Django Unchained is worthy of inclusion. Toss Samuel L. Jackson in as well.

No Best Foreign Language nod for The Intouchables?!? Makes sense, one of 2012's most entertaining films (not to mention France's biggest film ever) has no business in the mix. Fantastically inane.
