The Weekend Projector: Alien Episode I Edition

How any legit movie critic can come down with a final verdict of no-go on 'Prometheus' is nothing short of unconscionable. As has been the case with every movie in the history of mankind, Ridley Scott's return to outer, outer, outer space is by no means flawless but if you're looking for one of the most vividly captured movies ever, buy a ticket for the 3D edition - it's as if you're seeing Scott's universe through a View-Master.

  1. Prometheus ($75M) - The buzz is firmly in place but will the 'R' rating temper the take? Based on how the 'Alien' prequel's prequel performed last weekend in the UK, it should do more business than most are predicting. Here's my A- review.
  2. Madagascar 3 ($60M) - It's been over three months since Hollywood rolled out a tentpole family flick and the pent up demand to get the kiddos out of the house will equate to a hefty haul for the lion, zebra, giraffe and hippo as the menagerie unleash their "Afro Circus".
  3. Snow White and the Huntsmen ($31M) - One absolute lock this weekend: Charlize Theron will own two of the top 3 movies at the box office.
  4. MIB 3 ($15M) - Agents J and K have banked just $120M in their 14 days back from that extended vacation. Our second lock of the weekend: there will not be a 'MIB 4'.
  5. The Avengers ($11M) - Now third all-time on the domestic list but the sextet of superheroes will not see number 2 - still over $100M behind 'Titanic'.
